Title: | Mexico - Sustainable Development Project for Rural and Indigenous Communities of the Semi-Arid North-West - May 2008 |
Description: |
Raquel Banda Cisneros sitting in her household in Maguarichi, Mexico. Raquel Cisneros is part of a group of women who received financial and technical assistance in order to build a greenhouse to cultivate vegetables. Previously, all produce was transported to the village from neighbouring cities at great expense. The building of a greenhouse was supported in order to circumvent the limitations of the lack of access to arable land. The Sustainable Development Project for Rural and Indigenous Communities in the Semi-Arid Northwest particularly focuses on improving upon income-generating activities for vulnerable segments of the population in addition to increasing food security in a region which is characterized by poor, degraded natural resources and limited rainfall. |
