Women harvest rice in Aljamdou village, Gambia. Local farming groups are composed of up to 15 family members. In the lowlands, women grow rice, cultivate vegetables, and, raise livestock. Men cultivate coarse grains, groundnuts and other crops in the uplands. The Participatory Integrated Watershed-Management Project (PIWAMP) has built dikes in Aljamdou to facilitate water retention in the rice fields. |
