Cocoa pod. Sao Tome’s economy is dependent on cocoa, which accounts for approximately 90% of this small island’s exports. Cocoa production steadily declined after São Tomé's independence in 1975 mainly because of ageing cocoa trees and plantation mis-management. The project is aims to increas cocoa production through training and financial aid initiatives.
