Tea factory in Nshili – Kivu area (COTHENK). The factory buys green leaf tea from the cooperative of tea farmers. The whole process from green leaf to processed sold tea and pay back to farmers lasts approximately two weeks. The factory currently produces 1 million kilo’s of processed tea. The first step in processing tea is withering, to reduce the water content from 80% to 60%, the leaves are spread out on wire mesh beds and cool air is blown onto them. This takes 18 hours. |
