Title: Haiti - Food Crops Intensification Project - Phase II - August 2010
Description: Women collecting drinkable water from the spring financed by “Le Groupe des Femmes de Molière” in Laguasse. The spring was where the ancestors of the community got a drinkable water and was abandoned in bad condition. Only animals drunk from the spring and women had to wake up early and walk more than two hours to get water. Through Food Crops Intensification Project Phase II, the Association of Young Farmers of Laguasse has benefited from an irrigation project and can improve their crops production. “Le Groupe des Femmes de Molière”, a sub-group of women of the Association sow bean. After harvest and sold the crops, they invest the money in sowing peanuts to make more profit. When they sold the peanuts at good price and made more profit, they used a part of the profit to finance the rearrangement of the spring. Now the entire community has drinkable water in the village thank to the women group.

The project focuses on an area where 95 per cent of the population depend on agriculture as their main source of livelihood and where one third of the population is involved in seasonal migration to the capital Port-au-Prince and the Dominican Republic. The overall goal of the project is to make sustainable improvements in rural poor people's incomes and welfare and foster their participation in development.
