Léon Veronie, Coordinator of Managing Committee of the Farmers Organization for the Development of Pinchinat which benefited from irrigation project through Food Crops Intensification Phase II – She was a primary school teacher and joined the Farmers Organization to farm. In four months when she started selling her crops, her income was more than her two years salary as teacher so she resigned and now she is full time farmer. The project focuses on an area where 95 per cent of the population depend on agriculture as their main source of livelihood and where one third of the population is involved in seasonal migration to the capital Port-au-Prince and the Dominican Republic. The overall goal of the project is to make sustainable improvements in rural poor people's incomes and welfare and foster their participation in development. |
