Title: Haiti - Food Crops Intensification Project - Phase II - August 2010
Description: Nickson D’Evariste – woman trader with her bags of black beans she just purchase in rural market near Artibonite to go and sell them in the city in the North-West part of Haiti. She is waiting for the truck to load her goods and has to travel for two days to reach the place where she will sell her goods. In Haiti a woman like D’Evariste is called “Dame Sarah”. The “Dame Sarah” are also clients of the beneficiaries of some IFAD projects in Haiti. They do not buy their goods only in the markets but they also went to the farmers in the village to buy the crops.

The project focuses on an area where 95 per cent of the population depend on agriculture as their main source of livelihood and where one third of the population is involved in seasonal migration to the capital Port-au-Prince and the Dominican Republic. The overall goal of the project is to make sustainable improvements in rural poor people's incomes and welfare and foster their participation in development.
