Farmers gather to discuss oil palm harvesting, quality of fruit bunches and what inputs and conditions makes big fruit bunches on Kalangala island. Started in 2006, 6,000 hectares of low fertility grasslands and uncultivated jungle have been converted into oil palm plantations. With a target of 3,500 farmers as active members and cultivators of palm oil, to date (June, 2010) 1,500 small farmers are successfully cultivating palm oil and the planting continues. |
