Workers make biscuits and bread at the Acadivi bakery in Ratus village, Criuleni. Teodore Ursu runs Acadivi Ltd, a family bakery business in Ratus village in the central part of the country. His son, Ion, is the general manager. Ursu got an IFAD-financed loan of US$100,000 in 2002 to start baking bread with French equipment. The following year he got a second loan for the same amount to buy biscuit-making equipment from Italy. "We now employ 30 full-time staff, making 18 types of biscuits and traditional stone-baked bread," Ursu says. Acadivi Ltd has recently started selling biscuits to the Metro supermarket chain, and this year for the first time they also have been contracted by Metro to bake pretzels to sell on Oktober Fest. |
