Title: Kenya - Smallholder Horticulture Marketing Programme (SHOMAP), November 2013
Description: John Rimui and wife in their greenhouse near Leshau, Nyandarua County, Kenya.

Farmers from the Leshau cooperative grow tomatoes and sell them back to the cooperative for processing, in Nyandarua North. During peak season, the market is glutted with rain-fed tomatoes. By turning these tomatoes into tomato sauce, farmers are able to make more money per kilo of tomato, use tomatoes that would otherwise go to waste and sell their product throughout the year. The farmers group invested in a fruit pulper and individual farmers have invested in greenhouses to grow tomatoes beyond the traditional tomato growing season.
