At a milk collection center in Mwurire hill, more than 400 litres of milk are collected every day. They have eight people who use bicycles to collect milk from remote farms in the area. The milk is tested for fat content, sediment, lactose, density, protein content, added water, PH, freezing point, salts and conductivity. The milk is collected and then brought by car to Bujumbura which is 110 kilometers away. The milk is also sold by the glass to the local community. This can be bought both hot or cold. There is a veterinary supply shop that the milk cooperative runs, they sell medicine and salt licks to dairy farmers. |
