Lotus flowers, harvested by villagers in Hamidpur, Bangladesh, are a popular and valuable vegetable. Here they are being grown in a fish pond.
The Aquaculture Development Project aims to transfer ownership of water bodies to rural communities and fishing organizations. Through IFAD's initiatives, government bodies have agreed to lease certain bodies of water to fishing groups and small-scale farmers who in turn are able to maximize their earning potential and increase food security.
