Title: Bangladesh - Aquaculture Development Project - October 2002
Description: Fishermen sell their catch at a market in Jessore, Bangladesh.

The Aquaculture Development Project aims to increase rural incomes by providing access and fishing rights to bodies of water. Until recently, water bodies were leased by the government to large landowners who in turn employed rural fishing groups. By cooperating with the government, the project has placed fishing rights and access directly into the hands of the poorest segments of the population so that they may directly benefit from the natural resources the bodies of water provide. Through the project, rural empowerment has been promoted through increased food security and earning potential.
