São Tomé e Príncipe - Participatory Smallholder Agriculture and Artisanal Fisheries Development Programme (PAPAFPA) - April 2014
Description:
Director of Sao Tomé's Obô Natural Park, Aurélio Rita, discovers newly created farmland that is encroaching on the boundaries of the protected area. Sao Tomé is one of the world's biodiversity hotspots and many species are found nowhere else in the world. With high levels of poverty in the country, it is difficult to enforce protected areas. Now 70% of all vegetables in Sao Tomé are grown in the buffer zone of the Park.
