The 38th session of IFAD's Governing Council will convene on Monday and Tuesday, 16-17 February, with a focus on rural transformation as a key to sustainable development. This year's session features distinguished keynote speakers including His Majesty Tupou VI, King of Tonga; His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana; and His Excellency Pier Carlo Padoan, Minister for Economy and Finance of the Italian Republic. The meeting also features two panels of experts on gender equality and indigenous peoples rights – as well as a Governors' Roundtable on rural transformation and the post-2015 development agenda; a presentation with stories from the field on innovations in financial inclusion; and an IFAD Lecture on the future of aid by Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International.
