Zhang An Ping, 62, and his wife He Xtu Hua, 57, own 80 mu of land (or 5.3 hectares) and grow flax and corn in Wasu Mu village. They also raise about 30 sheep at a time. Zhang received training on animal healthcare and is able to better manage his sheep. His wife helps with the sheep raising when he is working in the field. Zhang and He live with Zhang’s mother and have two grown children. Their son works in a power plant and their daughter is married and living in town. “My children do not desire farming because they found jobs in the city and at the power plant – payment and benefits are higher than becoming a farmer,” says Zhang. |
