Title: | Burkina Faso - Rural Microenterprise Support Project - March 2007 |
Description: |
Livestock belonging to Djingri Diannou, 57, in Gayeri, Burkina Faso. Supported by IFAD, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, PAMER (Projet d'Appui aux Micro Entreprises Rurales) provides farmers with training and support to develop micro-enterprises in rural areas of Burkina Faso. "I have a herd of 50 cows. It is my only source of income so I keep a few close to home at all times in case I need to sell them quickly to meet an urgent need. Through PAMER I was able to get a loan from the savings bank. This allowed me to buy more food and better quality food for my cattle. I have grown the herd from 30 cows to 50 cows. As my wealth has increased, I have more money available to spend on my family's needs, such as clothes, soap, food, shoes, stationary and school fees for the children. I plan to keep depositing more money in the savings bank so I can grow my business. If I can raise the herd to 100 cows then I will be able to afford a new house for my family." |
