Supported by IFAD, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, PAMER (Projet d'Appui aux Micro Entreprises Rurales) provides farmers with training and support to develop micro-enterprises in rural areas of Burkina Faso. Mariam Zakane Welgo processes up to 20 tonnes of rice a year and sells it across the region, including in the capital Ouagadougou. "Before it was just a little village trade. Now in the house there is happiness. Before, my husband was the head of the house and I relied on him for everything. Now it's the other way around and I have my own money. I now have my own bank account at the savings bank. I never thought before that I would have my own bank account!" |
