Rosita Mélinda Leonor, 52, manages her small business in San Vicente state, El Salvador. Rosita Mélida Leonor after receiving training from IFAD was able to establish a small enterprise. Now she is in charge of collecting money for Avon -a cosmetics company- in her region, runs an animal farm with her daughter, has her own house and is a community leader who has represented El Salvador in several international forums. IFAD's country strategy in El Salvador focuses on improving living conditions in the poorest, most remote regions of the country. The Chalatenango area was deeply affected by the civil war which officially ended by the signing of a peace agreement in 1992, and also by two high magnitude earthquakes in 2001. IFAD's project initiatives work to invest in improving rural infrastructure and physical resources and also assist rural communities in developing demand-driven enterprises such as Rosita's. |
