Title: Brazil - Rural Sustainable Development Project in the Semi-arid Region of Bahia (Pro-Semiárido) April 2016
Description: Kiriri tribesmen walk through town that was formerly occupied by the brancos, or the whites, in Aldeia Marcação Kiriri, near Ribeira do Pombal, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

In 1995, after years of fighting for their rights, the Kiriri indigenous people took back their ancestral land. This was a very important milestone in their long-term struggle to keep themselves united as a people with a different cultural identity, with their own ancestral knowledge and traditions. The IFAD-funded Rural Sustainable Development Project in the Semi-arid Region of Bahia (Pro-Semiárido) works together with the Kiriri people to use their wisdom and traditions as a foundation upon which to build their livelihoods.
