Title: Brazil - Rural Sustainable Development Project in the Semi-arid Region of Bahia (Pro-Semiárido) April 2016
Description: Ebaldina Jesus Santiago, 35, with her daugher, Dariana, 8, outside their home at Aldeia Marcação Kiriri, near Ribeira do Pombal, Bahia, Brazil, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. The family uses a bigester that converts cow manure into energy. t takes five kilos of cow manure plus 15 liters of water, and two hours later, there is gas for 24 hours. "Before it cost us $50 reals a month to buy gas, now we can buy other things."

The biodigester, built four years ago, breaks down cattle manure and converts it into methane gas to be used as energy for cooking stoves. The byproduct is then used as fertilizer.
