Brazil - Rural Sustainable Development Project in the Semi-arid Region of Bahia (Pro-Semiárido) April 2016
Description:
"Working in the cooperative helps me stay independent," says Sandra Beatrice Jardim Souza, 40, who makes cookies in the cooperative, at Aldeia Marcação Kiriri, near Ribeira do Pombal, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. "I learn a lot and it expands my capacity everyday. Before I was in the house taking care of the kids. Now I help my community develop." Sandra is not a Kiriri but she met her husband, who is Kiriri, 21 years ago in Sao Paulo. When they returned to the aldeia, she worked along side her husband in the field growing crops and raising cows.
