Ednalva Maria de Jesus, 31, walks through the caatinga, the native vegetation of the region, at Aldeia Marcação Kiriri, inear Ribeira do Pombal, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She wears the native Kiriri garb in honor of Día do Índio, or Indigenous Day, celebrated on April 19. Ednalva is a mother of six children and began working at the cooperative where they produce the cassava flour. She also is an artisenal craftmaker. She says the job at the cooperative helps buy other foods they cannot grow. Although she receives Bolsa Familia, the family welfare program, they also breed chickens and grow beans and corn.
