Margaret Nkusouna agricultural extension development coordinator explains: "At the beginning we just emphasized the production part but we later found that in this village despite farmers were producing enough quantity and variety of food their children were still facing malnutrition because of the way they prepare food, so that’s why we propose to establish a group here to teach how to prepare various dishes with the food they are producing. In most cases just little improvement were necessaries in order to combine all nutrients in their diet . Especially this year that the production of maize was really low because of the drought, we emphasize that they shouldn't rely only on maize flour , they should also know how to cook sweet potatoes, cassava and banana, how to prepare dishes with it that they can eat for lunch in substitution of Nsima (traditional food)" |
