Title: Malawi - IFAD Country Programme - June 2016
Description: Hamalake village_Chimenya Jeffrey milks one of his cows.

My name is Chimenya Jeffrey, I’m married and I have 5 children.
I keep 4 cows and the milk I sell is my main source of income, I also grow maize for my family.
I’m part of the Thunga baking group since 3 years, I sell my milk through this group.
I’m also part of the Makala group, we share knowledge on cows breeding and we learn new techniques, we learnt to grow grass to feed the animals that we can store and keep for the dry season and to recognise and treat animal diseases.
Being part of this group changed a lot for me, before my milk was often not accepted as it was too sour, now I know how to treat my cows to prevent this problem.
Currently I’m selling all the milk, until 1500 liters per month for 200.000 kwacha.
Now that all the milk I produce is good for the market I’m making a lot of money and I am able to send children to school, enjoy the life, do whatever I want.
I’ve improved my house, bought a sofa. I’m able to buy what the children ask me, so everything is possible. In the future I want to keep pigs also, so when cows are not producing I can have this other source of income. For my children I want they can study, until university.
