Oby Gbughamobi, married with two children is a cassava processor and seller and belongs to the women cooperative in Igbaran. Their cooperatives one of the many benefiting fro the IFAD Value Chain Development Programme.Since ten years she started as individual cassava processing and seller until last year when she joined the cooperative.Upon joining the cooperative Oby earning have surge by over 200% because she is now able to process and seller cassava en-mass. Before being member of the cooperative she struggled to get patronage but the reverse today is the case as demand for the products are more than the supply, thanks to the cooperative networks and the IFAD Value Chain Development Programme.Through the cooperative she has been attending several training delivered by the Anamabra state ministry of agriculture particularly in the areas of business management and bookkeeping.Now she feels her living standards and that of her children is better because she can afford what ever she want and send her children to better school. She is happy her children are more intelligent now in their new school than before. She was her children to be successful career people and if any one shows interest in agriculture which will give her support.Lack of water supply does pose a challenge to her cassava processing business. She also would like to get support in using mechanized pilling and frying machine for their processing factory. This will enhance the productively and make the working environment more conducive. Igbaran farm settlement village II, Anamabra state, Nigeria is one of the beneficiary communities of the IFAD Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP). This programme takes a holistic and demand-driven approach to addressing constraints along the cassava and rice value chains. It does this by:• Developing agricultural markets and increasing market access for smallholder farmers and small to medium-scale agro-processors• Enhancing smallholder productivity – and thus increasing the volume and quality of marketable produce – by strengthening farmers' organizations as well as supporting smallholder production. The objective is to sustainably enhance rural incomes and food security. The target groups include 15,000 smallholder farming households, 1,680 processors and 800 traders. |
