Ogbonnaya Uko, 35 year is a successful fish farmer and a member of Youth in Agriculture, a programme initiated by IFAD Community Based Natural Resources Management Programme (CBNRMP ) as a viable platform for promoting youth interest in agribusiness. It supports a network of agro-enterprising youths across the 9 states of the Niger-Delta who are trained on entrepreneurial skills and agric business. After four years of graduating as an Estate manager Ogbonnaya was unsuccessful in securing a white collar job he return to his community, Akoli Imenyi to start fish farming with the superficial fishery training he had before. He started the fishing business with one earthen pond and three concrete pond filled with 3500 fish of 0.5kg but this venture went bad due to is inexperience in aquacultures.However, in 2013 through the IFAD CBNRMP Youth imitative he was sponsored for training at Songhai farm training centre in Rivers state, Nigeria on modern techniques and best practices in aquacultures.With the knowledge gotten from the training and 1.5million naira support he got CBNRMP he was able to scale up his fishing business.Today he runs an enterprise that explore the entire value chain of fishery from, processing, marketing to consumption.He also transmit is wealth of knowledge in aquaculture to youth at his farm way of giving back and empowering the youths.
