Chikuakua village_Greshan Ari and his employee Lazarus Sankorani harvest potatoes in their field. My name is Greshan Ari, I’m married and I have 4 children. I’m a farmer, I grow potatoes and maize in my 4,5 acres land, I also keep pigs, goats, chickens and cows. I sell my products to middlemen who come to my village. I’m part of a farmer group When you are in a group you learn a lot, you share experience, because no man is an island. We share all the techniques about potatoes and maize production. My life is completely changed since I joined this group, I’ve built a new house and opened a shop in the village with the income I get from potatoes. Even my friends talk about me and say that I’m a completely different person because they see what I have, in my shop there is even electricity that I never had before, what I own now I never had before. So I feel life is really changed for me. This is the result of following advice of extension worker on how to produce. All my children haven’t done well at school so I’m trying to prepare activities for each of them so they can stand alone and saying this is what dad gave us and they can continue on their own. I want to expand the shop for one son, open another small barbershop for another one and maybe the 2 others can continue with farming. |
