Papaya seedlings in Tsivory Village, Madagascar. Between 1970 and 1995, per capita income of Madagascar fell by 40 per cent while the population doubled. The population pressures in combination with the lack of hygiene and access to safe drinking water lead to chronic malnutrition particularly among vulnerable segments of the population. IFAD's project initiatives aim to relieve population pressures by increasing food security and improving upon irrigation systems to boost agricultural production. Tsivory Village is located in Amboasary District, Tsivory Council, Madagascar. |
