Title: Madagascar - Upper Mandraré Basin Development Project (PHBM) - November 2007
Description: A stall sells bowls in Elonty Village, Madagascar.

Half of Malagasy children show signs of chronic malnutrition. Between 1970 and 1995, per capita income of Madagascar fell by 40 per cent while the population doubled. These population pressures were particularly felt by the marginalized segments of the population, in particular women, landless farmers, and young people. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) focuses on improving living conditions, food security, and rural infrastructure in order to cope with the strains of an increasing population and dwindling food resources.

Elonty Village is located in Elonty Commune, Amboasary District, Madagascar.
