Afef picking reed that she uses to make her accessories, in this marshy area of Tlalet the reed grows spontaneously so she can go and gather any time she need.
Afef Arfa 26 years old participate to the first IFAD formation course in 2012 and complete the second part of the course in 2014, the Agripastoral Development and Local Initiatives Promotion Programme objective is to reduce rural poverty and improve living condictions, expanding employment opportinities for disavantaged groups, including young people and women.
Afef start to work in a small room at home making wickers made out of reed collected in Tlalet in 2014 after completing the formation courses she decide to open a workshop and start to produce new items made out of reed mixed with leather and fabrics such: bags, key rings, and purses to expand her business.
Afef today had extended her business and still researching to make new items in order to sell more and expand her workshop, she believe that with the and support of the project she will menage to participate to many fairs around the country in order to sell her products and create more contacts and and have more clients. 'Soon I will buy a new sew machine and I would like to have a shop in Tatauine' Afef says speaking about future projects, she is already teaching other women at the formation courses, in the future she would like to help her sister opening a new business.
