Description:
An ongoing microfinance initiative under the poverty alleviation programme. All households are brought under this programme, where a group of 25-30 participants are formed to meet once a week. 984 microcredit groups have been formed out of an estimated target of 1120 for 2800 households. One female member per household is part of the group. They save Tk 20 per week and attend the weekly meetings. Most of the members have taken loans or intends to take loans for income generating activities. This initiative is also under the supervision of CDSP IV, which is the fourth phase in a series of projects that have been developing newly accreted land (chars) in the coastal areas of Bangladesh since 2011. It is co-financed by the Government of Bangladesh, the Government of the Netherlands and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
