Title: Mongolia - Rural Poverty Reduction Programme - June 2009
Description: Ereugiilham, 53, married with four children, standing outside his household in Tariat Soum, Mongolia.

Ereugiilham is the head of the herders group in Berk Bag that was formed in 2008. Five households belong to the group. They are in the mountain region and raise 200 horse, cattle and yak. The project has provided fencing material for intensive hay making. Wire to make fencing is expensive and hard to find so Ereguiilham asked the project. A plot of land that would normally provide 1 ton of grass, will provide 1.8 tons if it has been fenced off and 2.5 tons if fertilizer is used.

“We use metal wire to fence off area so we can preserve some grass to store for winter, otherwise the animals will eat all the grass and they will not find hay for winter.”
