Title: | Mongolia - Rural Poverty Reduction Programme - June 2009 |
Description: |
Urtnasan, 58, in front of her greenhouse where she grows vegetables in Tunel Soum, Mongolia. Urtnasan grows vegetables such as potatoes, cabbage, carrots, and beets. She has ten years of experience and is now a trainer for other vegetable growers. Urtnasan feeds her children and grand children in addition to selling surplus vegetables at the market. Carrots and potatoes are her most successful crops. She has to bring water using a cart from 2km away in order to water her crops. My family got more used to eating vegetables, now I send vegetables to relatives living in the capital because they say my vegetables are tasty. The only thing is that it is very cold now for June, it could damage all my work in one night of frost. I can serve my family a meal using less meat but I can not get away with serving a meal without meat. Mongolians believe that a meal without meat is not a meal. |
