Weekly market in Talat N'Yacoub, Morocco. In the Middle and High Atlas mountains, communities face extreme weather conditions and a lack of basic social services and civil infrastructure. Winters are cold, roads are often foot paths and when it rains, remote villages becoem impossible to access. Local agricultural production includes fruit trees- olives, almonds, walnuts, cherries, a variety of apples, and garden vegetables. In the weekly market, farmers buy and sell locally grown produce and animal feed. Villagers are also able to pick up essential supplies such as medicine in order to bring back to remote areas in teh mountains. The Rural Development Project in the Mountain Zones of Al Haouz Province has improved over 157 km of rural roads which are essential for farmes to bring produce to village markets and for purchasers to transport goods back to their households. Talat N'Yacoub is located 100 km from Marrakesh, High Atlas mountains, Morocco. |
