Pauline Mugambi is a member of Kerma Smallholder Self Help Dairy Group, one of the dairy groups supported by the Programme in Ngata Dairy Commercialization Area, Nakuru County. Pauline is 46 years old. She is married to Edward Mogambi with 2 children, a boy and a girl, aged 22 and 19 years old respectively. The whole family is involved in managing the farm She has benefited from training by SDCP in a number of subjects including fodder and feed production. Pauline had developed a vision to own a pedigree cow producing at least 20 litres of milk per day. To date she is working towards attaining her dream. Through sale of milk so far she has been able to build a hay barn large enough to accommodate and sustain production throughout the year. So far she has also planted 1 acre of maize for silage, bought a cow at KES 70,000 and water storage tank worth KES 35,000. In addition to being a successful dairy farmer, she is currently a trainer recognized not only in Kenya but across the region. She trains farmers as well as students who visit her farm to learn different aspects of fodder and feed production. Since 2013, she has hosted visitors from other parts of the country; e.g. Kisii, Bomet Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu (from SDCP and other programs) and other countries as well. She is one of the Community Resource Persons (CRPs) trained by the SDCP. She is also a Gender Action and Learning Systems (GALS) champion (trained in February 2017). A GALS champion is defined as a person who receives GALS methodology, is ready to practice it and use it for their own purpose to change their own situations. |
