Sammy (46 years old) and Nelly are married with 3 kids and they live in Nakuru. After graduating with a diploma in hospitality, Sammy embarked on job searching in the Mombasa city without success. Occasionally he would work as a casual laborer in hotels but the pay was meagre and could not sustain him. He moved back to Nakuru and his father gave him six acres of family land to till, which he planted maize. From the proceeds of the maize, he bought 2 cows producing an average of 4 litres per cow per day.
