Tonga, Tonga Rural Innovation Project - Phase II, December, 2019
Description:
'Ilaise Fa'u weaves a traditional Tongan mat from pandanus leaves in Mu'a Community Hall, 'Eua. The Mu'a Community Hall serves as an important communal space for weavers and other traditional handicraft makers. The woven mats, known as fala in the Tongan language, are important items for utilitarian and gift giving purposes. They are very time consuming to produce and take a great deal of skill to make.
