Title: Tunisia - Agropastoral Development and Local Initiatives Promotion Programme for the South-East - December 2008
Description: Khadija El-Wafi, 40, 5 children at her sheep raising business in Tamalest village, Tunisia.

Khadija El-Wafi started her sheep raising business after receiving training from the project, obtaining a diploma and then the guidance to apply for a small loan from the bank. She started out with 4 male and 4 female sheep and now has 40 sheep. She as successfully paid back her loan to the bank.

Milk and meat from the sheep has significantly contributed to her family’s health and well-being. All five of her children are in school, two in International Baccalaureate level, one in secondary school and two in primary school.

The difficulties Khadija still faces in raising sheep are due to lack of rain and shortage of food for her animals. It has not rained significantly in the area in five years (as of December 2008).
