Abdeljahl Ben Asfa, age 50, 8 children, breeds camels in Douz province,Tunisia. He feeds the camels a mixture of grass and date palm waste. He currently owns 33 female camels, most of which are milk producing. Each milk producing camel can yield 2-5 litres a day. He has about 15 new camels born a year and buys an additional 5-10 a year. He sells the male camels and the female ones who no longer produce milk. A camel can be bought or sold for between 1000 2000 TDN, depending on its health and milk production. |
