Fahad Shehu, Kontagora Youth Concensus Farmers, 23 years old. IFAD has trained young farmers in proper use of modern sprayers and adoption of safety precautions in the application of agrochemicals on farmlands. The essence of the training is to educate farmers on the potential risks of agrochemicals to their health, safe handling of agrochemicals as well as the beneficial uses and the maintenance of the spraying equipment. Spraying provides the farmers an opportunity to earn income by forming agrochemicals spraying groups and commercialising the spraying process. IFAD/VCDP have provided sprayers to farmers through matching grants with farmers paying 30% of the cost. |
