Nirere Jeanne d'Arc, 39, is a pineapple farmer and a mother of 4 children from Murehe Cell, in Kirehe district, located in eastern Rwanda. Since shifting to growing pineapple and integrating it with organic farming, Nirere and her family have witnessed increased incomes from the high valued commodity bought at reasonable prices by her village cooperative, the Tuzamurane Cooperative. The family in such a short period of time has been able to buy more land, pay school fees for their children and have been able to easily provide basic family needs. Together with her husband, Thomas Nzitabakuze, they have been able to further diversity their family source of income by raring and selling pigs.
