Nigeria, Value Chain Development Programme Phase II (VCDP II), November 2019
Description:
Dorothy Chia Vandefan graduated from university with a degree in agricultural engineering. But she couldn’t find a good job. When she heard about an opportunity to join an agricultural training programme offered by the IFAD-supported Value Chain Development Project - or VCDP - in 2016, she decided to join up. The training she received in rice seed production at AfricaRice, International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) was a life-changing moment for her. After selling her first crop of certified seed in 2018, Dorothy did what might have seemed impossible to her just a few years earlier as a fresh and unemployed university graduate: she became an employer.
