Marilou Aboguin is a mother of five, of which three are still studying. Before being part of the BFAR programme, her she was a full-time manicurist. While taking part in the progamme has improved her situation, she still does manicure work on the side, as she still has to support one of her older sons who, since graduating, has not been able to find a job due to the pandemic. She also helps her husband with the copra (the dried meat or kernel of the coconut) production and their mussel farm which was washed away during a recent typhoon. The overall goal of the project is to reduce poverty in poor coastal communities, improve food and nutrition security and increase household. The fishing communities' capacity to sustainably manage fishery and coastal resources is built and ensures sustainable engagement in diversified livelihood activities. More than 180,000 poor households living in coastal areas will benefit from this IFAD-funded project. |
