Title: El Salvador - National Programme of Rural Economic Transformation for Living Well - Rural Adelante – November 2021
Description: Iris Maribel Alberto Laínez, 27 years old, mother of 10-year-old twins, is the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Association for Agricultural Marketing and Production "El Limón”, LLC (ACOELI de R.L.).

In the eastern region of El Salvador, an area where extreme climate, in particular drought, is an issue, the Cooperative Association for Agricultural Marketing and Production "El Limón”, LLC (ACOELI de R.L) has set-up hydroponic greenhouses where Loreto tomatoes are grown.

Through the Rural Adelante programme, Iris says that “the project has been opening doors for young people that want to study and gain training. We’ve participated in workshops and will continue to do so next year with the youth. We explore how to access more training, to develop our skills and knowledge – and be able to pass that along to others. As youth, we also have the opportunity to start a project, a business proposal that will be profitable. The project will help us and benefit us with a monetary fund for young people that want to start a business – starting a new business or strengthening an existing project. For young people and women, it changes our lives profoundly.”

The Rural Adelante programme aims to sustainably increase rural families’ incomes in the eastern region of the country, an area which is impacted by extreme climate, especially droughts.
