Hydroponic greenhouses where Loreto tomatoes are harvested by the Cooperative Association for Agricultural Marketing and Production "El Limón”, LLC (ACOELI de R.L). The members of the Cooperative, particularly young mothers, have benefited from the Rural Adelante programme through workshops, trainings and funding. By using hydroponics, the community has benefited from several advantages including better pest control, planting quality seed, and longer harvesting which lasts for five-and-a-half to six months instead of three months. The Rural Adelante programme aims to sustainably increase rural families’ incomes in the eastern region of the country, an area which is impacted by extreme climate, especially droughts. |
