Aerial view of Pamaxán, an agricultural community near San Juan Cotzal, Quiché, where Juana Morales Rodríguez, a small entrepreneur and leader of her rural credit union group, lives. The village is quite isolated and the small community struggles as it has limited access to town markets, electricity, and basic needs and the salaries are not very high. COVID has also caused an increase in prices and created difficulties due to the restrictions in movement. Climate has been changing over time, resulting in heavier rainfalls which cause more frequent mudslides. Pamaxán is one of the rural communities being reached by Agros International with the agri-digitalization campaign, an RPSF supported project, and giving the people an opportunity to access credit and loans. The RPSF is a short-term strategy that feeds into IFAD’s longer-term development objectives. It aims to improve the food security and resilience of poor rural people by supporting production, market access and employment and to accelerate their recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. |
