Juana Morales Rodríguez, a 27-year-old, mother of three, small entrepreneur and leader of her rural credit union group, inputs data in the "Mi Caja" application on the tablet. Juana owns a weaving workshop where she produces fabrics which are sold wholesale to a buyer in Santa Cruz, Quiché. When she started out, she only had one loom, but thanks to a loan from Agros Internacional, Juana was able to purchase an additional two looms. Her husband and older son work with her in the workshop. Through a digitalisation campaign, supported by the RPSF, and training in the use of a tablet, which is recharged through a solar panel, Juana can manage and view the group’s loans and savings. “What we like about the tablet is that it records all of our savings. It’s all there in the tablet – our loans too. It's all there.” she says. The RPSF is a short-term strategy that feeds into IFAD’s longer-term development objectives. It aims to improve the food security and resilience of poor rural people by supporting production, market access and employment and to accelerate their recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. |
