Niko Rokodravu sprays his cassava plants with organic fertiliser made from a biogas digester. Niko is a 47 year old ex customs officer from Marinitawa who retired from his job November 2021 to take up farming full time. He had been doing farming part-time with unsatisfactory results, however in October 2021, staff at Customs were given the option of voluntary redundancy, and Niko chose to take it. It hasn’t been easy, but the challenges have been ones he is happy to face. Donors to the agriculture industry have really helped because Government is ignoring the sector. According to Niko, “without them and their assistance, farming would have been very difficult.” |
