Title: Peru - Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF): AGRIdigitalización – August 2022
Description: Gianfranco Ríos Barco is the general manager for the agricultural cooperative ACOPAGRO, located in the district of Juanjuí. The organization brings together more than 2,000 small producers from four different provinces in the San Martín region. Their main activity is the promotion of cocoa cultivation; however, they are committed to the diversification of production and are now also growing Tahiti lime.

For Gianfranco, one of the greatest benefits of the AGRIDigitalization project is that they have been able to establish commercial links with companies on the Peruvian coast that, in turn, supply supermarkets and have let them know their requirements regarding quality and volume. “With that information, we can work together with the technical team to improve quality in the field and fulfill, in the near future, the Tahiti lime orders of our customers,” he says.

Some of the measures that they plan to implement with their technical team are technical irrigation systems and the collection of solid waste for composting as organic fertilizer.

The AGRIdigitalization project is an IFAD initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ organizations. It had a business intervention model which included training services, webpage updating, documents and videos translation, and positioning of products on digital platforms outside of traditional commerce. The purpose was to develop and strengthen a support model for organizations to access new markets through e-commerce.
